Fundamental British Values and Protected Characteristics

Fundamental British Values

At King James's School we value:

Democracy:

  • We learn about democracy in Britain and we have a Youth Council who work with the local community and local councillors.
  • We have a Student Council and Senior Student team so that we can use student voice because your opinion counts

Rule of Law:

  • We learn about why rules and laws are designed to keep everyone safe and that they are everyone’s responsibility to follow.
  • We learn that when rules and laws are broken then consequences and actions may follow.

Liberty:

  • We learn about making choices for ourselves by taking responsibility for our own thoughts, words and actions
  • We learn about boundaries and guidance so we can make informed choices

Mutual respect:

  • We believe that respect is at the heart of the KJ Way and it shows the importance of being polite and respectful to everyone.
  • We learn that behaviours have an effect on us and others and that we should treat everyone how we want to be treated ourselves.

Tolerance of those of different faith & beliefs:

  • We learn that people may have different faiths and beliefs to us, but that does not make it wrong – just different.
  • We believe that Britain is a society of many cultures, Religions and faiths and we need to respect and accept that others may have different ways of life
